Welland Pre-school was thrilled this week to have the Chair of its Committee, Marilyn Grubb, announced as the winner of the Pre-school Learning Alliance Outstanding Volunteer Award for the West division at an awards ceremony in Exeter. The Pre-school Learning Alliance is the country’s largest early years membership organisation of quality affordable childcare and education representing the interests of over 14,000 settings. The West division covers a quarter of the country from Birmingham to Cornwall. Marilyn was nominated for the award by Amie Sauntson, manager of Welland Pre-school, for her continuing commitment to the running of the charity, organising fund-raising events, volunteering to help with outings and visitors and helping to develop pre-school for a successful future despite no longer having any family connections to the setting. Amie said “As a registered charity, we rely on a committee made up of volunteers. Marilyn has been on the committee for six years, as a member, treasurer and now chair. She has really helped the pre-school develop and blossom despite having her own family commitments. She has been my rock. We are all really grateful to Marilyn and wanted to mark her amazing contribution in some way and nominating her for this award was one way of doing this. We were therefore thrilled that she won the West Division title and is now going through to the national finals in London in June.”marilyn awards 048
